Grab your audience and get your message across

Spotlight Productions offers an end-to-end production process service which takes you from concept to completion.

Whatever your timeline and video requirements, we have the flexibility to deliver. We can produce same-day marketing video content (as we do for trade and exhibition clients who mail it to their database to boost attendance), or work to a dedicated production timeline (for instance we produced an online learning video series with a timeline of eight weeks) – or anything in between.

OUR PRODUCTION PROCESS

Scene 1 : Great Coffee & Great Ideas

Pre-production is the all-important planning and preparation stage of creating your video. We’ll get together with you to brainstorm who your audience is, what story you want to tell them and the best way to present this visually. There are many different styles of video to choose from filmed content, presenter led, pieces to camera, narration, voiceover, motion graphics, screen recordings, animated infographics and cartoons. The kind of look and feel you go for depends on your messaging requirements and target audience. It’s also worth bearing in mind that the style you choose will determine the project cost, timescales, logistics and locations.

From here we’ll come up with a script (if needed) and think about how the video design will fit your brand guidelines. By the time the curtain falls on pre-production, we’ll have decided what, who, where, when and discussed the question that everyone asks.

Scene 2 : Dollars & Cents

How much? That’s the number one question clients ask us. It helps to think of video production in terms of building a house – cost will vary according to location, design and materials. Video production costs depend on a number of factors such as:

• what type of content needs to be created - is it to be filmed and if so what filming location(s) will be involved?
• are motion graphics or graphic design needed?
• will a voice-over or a presenter be used?

Your audience will influence a lot of these choices. For instance, using an employee as a presenter may be a better cultural fit than hiring a professional actor. Or maybe actual footage recorded on location will resonate better with your audience than using motion graphics. Once we discuss these factors, we can provide you with a full cost breakdown and detailed production schedule. We’ll then discuss any adjustments needed to fit with your proposed budget and timeline before filming starts.

Scene 3 : The Thrilling Action Sequence

Otherwise known as Production. This is where it all happens. Everyone gets a production schedule detailing everything and everyone involved in the shoot. Filming and audio recording can be done on location or in our studios. Get ready for your close-up!

Scene 4 : Magic in Motion

Post production or editing is where the magic is made. It’s done in our studio and includes cutting, animating, incorporating graphics and captions, colour grading and sound design. We welcome your creative input – you can come to our studio or we can bring a mobile edit suite to your office. This is particularly useful at the start where there is a large amount of content to go through. We can also provide you with the raw data (e.g. interviews) and transcribe dialogue to assist with a paper edit.

We divide the editing process into three stages. At the end of each stage we provide you with an online cut (via a private YouTube setting) to review. Each stage is based on a time estimate, with the bulk of time spent on the first stage. We review your feedback at each stage and gradually assemble the parts of the video into something you can be proud of.

Scene 5 : Roll out the Red Carpet

Once you’ve signed off on the final edit, it’s compressed out to a master format and to all the formats you have requested e.g. YouTube optimized files, HDTV files for playback on computers and televisions or for iPad, iPhone (or other handsets).

Hosting your video on YouTube (the second biggest search engine after Google), makes it instantly accessible to millions of people and is great for SEO. Once hosted, you can also embed your video on your website and the link can be placed on unlimited sites such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn etc.
